Il grande trio

New orchestral work developed with Klangspuren Schwaz and the Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck. Working title: Il grande trio.

Pe4enkata (Adriana Nikolova), beatbox. Electric bass TBA.

About the work

Il grande trio brings three distinct musical bodies into conversation: the beatboxer, the electric bass and the symphony orchestra. It extends the exploration begun in Blast, allowing the soloists’ individual sounds and performative energy to shape a larger orchestral form.

The project draws on Oscar Bianchi’s longstanding engagement with the low register, from Docile Ascesa to 6 dB, and on the electric bass’s particular relationship to touch, amplification and groove. The elastic placement of a sound just ahead of or behind the beat becomes a compositional resource: different performers can inhabit the same pulse while creating contrasting experiences of musical time.

Pe4enkata’s voice brings breath, articulation, resonance and a broad range of timbres into this exchange. The orchestra acts as a third protagonist, able to reinforce, resist or transform the soloists’ gestures. The form grows through changing relationships between these three bodies, with space for each performer’s musical personality to emerge.

Developed through ongoing dialogue with Klangspuren’s artistic director Marco Blaauw, the work seeks to integrate the soloists’ full expressive range into the composition itself. Its orchestral scale opens room for ideas to unfold, for vocal and instrumental gestures to acquire new dimensions, and for amplification to become part of a shared sonic space.
